NEW York, New York - U.S. stocks were mixed Thursday as investors and traders returned to their desks after a day off Wednesday to mark Juneteenth. The Dow Jones industrials moved higher, while the Standard and Poor's 500 and Nasdaq Composite were dominated by sellers. Trump Media was a standout, extending its recent decline. DJT closed Thursday down 14.56 percent or $4.56, ending at $26.75 a share.

"Seasonally adjusted, it's a low volume period for markets and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot driving things on a day-to-day basis," Nathan Kotler, head of trading at GenTrust told CNBC Thursday.

"You're starting to see some signs of getting a little bit overextended, but there's been an incredible amount of momentum which has continued this week," he said.

  • S&P 500 (US): The S&P 500 index closed at 5,473.17, down by 13.86 points, or 0.25 percent, with a trading volume of 2.851 billion shares.
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average (US): The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 299.90 points, or 0.77 percent, ending the day at 39,134.76, with a trading volume of 395.394 million shares.
  • NASDAQ Composite (US): The NASDAQ Composite declined by 140.64 points, or 0.79 percent, to close at 17,721.59, with a trading volume of 5.635 billion shares.

World Foreign Exchange Market Quotes for Thursday Sees U.S. Dollar Rebound

The greenback gain ground across hte board Thursday, with all the majors being sold off. The Swiss franc and Japanese yen took the brunt of the damage.

EUR/USD (Euro/US Dollar): The euro weakened against the dollar, falling to 1.0705, a decline of 0.34 percent.

USD/JPY (US Dollar/Japanese Yen): The Japanese yen crumbled, sliding to 158.88, a drop of 0.53 percent.

USD/CAD (US Dollar/Canadian Dollar): The Canadian dollar fell by 0.12 percent Thursday to 1.3686.

GBP/USD (British Pound/US Dollar): The British pound dropped 0.41 percent to 1.2663.

USD/CHF (US Dollar/Swiss Franc): The Swiss franc was the worst performer on the day, shedding 0.85 percent to 0.8913, after the SWiss central bank cut official interest rates.

AUD/USD (Australian Dollar/US Dollar): The Australian dollar weakened against the U.S. dollar, easing 0.19 percent to 0.6657

NZD/USD (New Zealand Dollar/US Dollar): The New Zealand dollar weakened 0.14 percent to 0.6122.
